Archive for August, 2009

I am completely new to blogging and wondered how to start this one. A greeting would be fine, I think.

Of course, in Italian, there are many ways to greet someone it, depends on the context and occasion.

One can say “Benvenuto”  but that is a masculine form of address.   Or “Benvenuta” – fine for addressing a lady. But for a gender-neutral term,  Salve!  is a good start. “Hi!”

There’s always “Ciao!”, but Salve is better here because to me it feels right for this occasion, My First Blog.

Salve!  Benvenuti sul mio sito che spero vi piacera’.  Qui potremo ritrovarci ogni tanto e scambiarci un saluto e qualche notizietta in italiano.

Domani, 31 agosto, e’ festa qui in Inghilterra.

Intanto, tanti auguri e saluti a voi tutti e arrivederci presto

Hi: I’m Damian – Irma’s son. I set up the original Italian Tuition Online website over ten years ago, typing the raw HTML code into my ancient computer. Luckily, things have moved on considerably, so I’m now taking the time to revamp our website, as you can see.

Along with the various study aids, we’ll also take the time to blog about Italy and Italian Culture in general – sharing tidbits here and there.

ValkaranaSo, for my first proper post, I would like to suggest to anyone who’s visiting Sardinia this summer/autumn, to drop in at Valkarana. It’s a beautifully isolated hotel in the North-East of Sardinia, near Tempio Pausania, and is a wonderful place to get away from it all. My wife and I discovered it whilst hunting for wedding venues in Italy… and liked it so much, we went back a year later with a coachload of friends and family to hold our wedding there.

After several years with the same website, we’ve decided it’s time for a change! We’re moving from our old pure-HTML site, to a brand new one based on Wordpress. My hope is that it’ll allow me to update the site far more regularly, and also add many new features that I’ve been thinking about for a while, such as a blog, photo album, hints and tips, and the like.

Once the site is ready, we’ll replicate it to our current main address, www.italian-tuition.co.uk. We still come first or second in Google searches for ‘Italian Tuition’, without ever consciously having tried to promote the site, so hopefully we’ll soon have a website that befits our site ranking.
